Traffic volume is the most important parameter when it comes to monetizing your blog (more visitors = more money). A large portion of traffic volume comes from search engines. To monetize efficiently, it's crucial to get your blog contents in the top list of any search engine result pages (SERP). Search Engine Optimization (SEO) helps you to achieve this goal.

There are two types of search results:

Natural (a.k.a organic).
Paid (e.g. sponsored links in Google SERP).

We'll focus on improving your ranking for the natural search results. Getting in the first few pages of the SERP will ensure that most people will find your content.

Search engines basically need one thing to know where to put your blog on their list - your rank on the keyword(s) used to search. For example, if your blog title is Tiki Tiki Guide to Making Money, you might be ranked high if people search for the keywords 'tiki tiki guide'. But you might be far beneath the thousands of other pages on the keywords 'making money online'. The question is, which of these two keyword phrases people will most likely search for. The answer is obvious.

The key to performing SEO lies in knowing what keywords to use and how to optimize their use. Be warned that heavily searched keywords are usually targeted by millions of sites and blogs, whom you have to compete against to move up the SERP. Finding a balance between highly competitive and highly searched keywords is a challenge.

Keyword and SEO research takes time. Even professional bloggers take a few months to move up the SERP right into the first few pages. Above all, content is the heart of a blog. If the content isn't good, no SEO research will do you any good.

Target the Right Keywords
Deciding what to blog is the most critical part. You must do research on keywords prior to deciding your niche. Here are some list of what to check on:

Search volumes on those keywords.
Number of competitors writing in the same niche.
Ads served based on those keywords, so that you don't blog on the ones serving very low cost-per-click(CPC).
Variations of these keywords: their synonyms and related words or phrases (see which get searched more with less competitor).

The best tool to help you with this is Wordtracker, available at a price. The site offers free trial and limited functions available for free. There are other keyword tools available with different functionalities.

Choose Suitable Domain Name
SEO keywords begin from the URL. The best domain name is the one with keyword(s) in it. It's great to have a URL like www.yourownname.com, but you'll loose out on getting better SERP rank if it doesn't contain any keywords. Isn't it obvious that www.iwanttomakemoneyonline.com helps SEO better than www.johnjohnnyjonathan.com. Unless of course, you've built some high reputation and your name gets searched a lot.

The other perspective on domain naming is that building a brand name is better in the long run, with something easy and catchy to remember. So there's two side of the coin: you might want to flip on it. But once you've built your blog to a certain level, it's not good to change the domain name. Having a URL that's both catchy and keyword-friendly is ultimately the best. Problogger.net is both catchy and keyword-friendly. Use whois lookup to check if a domain is available.

Use Keywords in Other Sections
The idea is to maximize the use of keywords wherever you can (don't overdo it though). These are the places that you must put keywords in them:

Blog Title - Search engines weigh your blog title heavily. Again, it's best to find a name that is both catchy and keyword-rich.
Blog Description - This is where you want to write phrases that catches attention, but rich with keywords too. If you're ranked even at No.1, but your description is as dull as a bull, nobody is going to click to your blog.
File Names - Use keywords to name files, pictures, photos, graphs, videos, etc that you're using in your blog.
Internal Links - Some sites use image maps with hotspot hyperlinks, images, or buttons to navigate within the sites. This works against SEO. It's better to use text links instead of images as text links carry more weight when getting ranked in search engines.
Tags or Labels - Each posts should be tagged or labelled with keywords to help strengthen SEO. Some prominent blog directories, like Technorati, uses these tags to identify your blog for others to search.

Blog titles, descriptions, and keywords can be enhanced by using META tags. Here's an article on how to use META tags efficiently.

Use Keywords Often in Content
How do search engine algorithms decide what each post is about? They'll scan for the the most-used keywords in the post, with different weights given to different elements. To make your posts 'acknowledged' as being related to any particular keywords, use and repeat them often in the posts. But don't do this too excessively to the point of being straight-out blunt and annoying. Having the right keyword-density in your posts have two benefits:

Draws in more related ads to the post pages. Related ads have better click-through-rates (CTR).
Contributes more towards getting higher rank on those keywords.

Build Links from External Sites
One way to get linked to is by exchanging links, commonly done in Blogrolls. Higher-ranking external sites helps your blog more in terms of SEO. Another way to do this is to submit your blog to directories (here's a tool for an automatic submission for multiple directories). Another highly trusted free directory is DMOZ. Internet Explorer 6 Fix for Blogger Templates

When your site gets a visitor and finds that one of your sidebar has been pushed below the posts, he’ll consider your site of not a decent quality and you might lose a regular reader

The ready made templates which are available for Bloggers are from the side of some world class designers but when a blogger places an image, video etc. in the middle of the post and the width of the images/video is more than that space provided, in some versions of Web browser, the sidebar tends to drop ,ie, it slips down blog posts this is also known as float drops.

I had a similar problem when one of my friends said that the left sidebar is dropping for my Minima three column template in some old versions of Internet Explorer. My site is loaded with a lot of stuff and maybe in some web browser my sidebar falls. My site in short was looking a piece of crap without one sidebar.

A normal css definition for a sidebar looks like

My Blog last 10 Days Stats-O-Rama!!

When I created this blog on 27th of December 2007,I was wondering to have 1000 unique visitors per day.It was a great and difficult target.But today i think my wish is coming true and in just two months i have got more than 500 unique visitors per day.My unique visitors increases very fast in the last 10 days.Here is my blog stats from 17 feb 2008 to 27 feb 2008 (Last 10 days):
I was amazed that the stats increased very much in the last 10 days as you see but before it the stats was very low as you can see below from 6 feb 2008 to 16 feb 2008:

Make More Money with Inline Adsense in Blogger Posts

Blogger has now made it possible for you to make even more money! You can now add Inline Adsense advertisements between your blog posts.

As we have seen before you can add Adsense Ads. by selecting the Adsense Widget when adding widgets to your blog. If you want to include channel information also copy and paste the Adsense code into a Html Page Element.

Now with this method (Inside AdSense: Get inline) you can add Adsense Ads. between your blog posts inline with them. To do this login at Blogger.com and click on 'Layouts' link for your blog. In the Page Elements tab click on 'Edit' link in the Blog Posts widget. Scroll down in the popup window and check the box next to Show Ads Between Posts. You can then select how often you'd like your ads to appear, such as once after every post or once after every other post.

It also allows you to Customize your Adsense Ads. After customizing save the changes. At the moment search boxes and referral units cannot be added in this fashion. Since the optimum method is to have most of your Ads. above 'the fold' ( which is the viewable area of the screen when you open a site without having to scroll down ) use the Expandable Summaries hack to show only a summary of your posts on the Main Page with a 'Read More' link to the full post.

Using this method your posts on the Main Page will only contain a sentence or two and thus more posts and Adsense will be seen above the fold.

How to Create Expandable Posts Summaries in Blogger

Expandable Post Summaries is the method by which each blog post consists of a short paragraph of introduction followed by a 'Read More' link. This enables the reader to get a small introduction to each post on the main page. He can then click the Read More link if he gets sufficiently interested........

Many bloggers have reported confusion when they tried to follow the instructions on the official blogger help page for this hence I have tried to put the help in more easy to follow terms here. There are basically three steps to follow if you want to implement expandable post summaries in the new layouts template.

CONDITIONAL CSS

The first step is to put the code for the conditional css. This changes how posts display on different pages. To do this login to Dashboard and click on Layout for your blog. Then click on Edit Html and first backup your template by using the Download Full Template link. Then scroll down till you come to </head> tag and add the following code immediately above it :

Save Template. IMPORTANT NOTE in the layouts template there is a ]]></b:skin> tag just above the </head> tag. Add the above code so that it lies between these two tags. What we did here was to define a class called "fullpost" that will appear only on post pages (permalinks).

"READ MORE" LINKS

The second step is to add the Read More links which will appear after the paragraph summaries. To do this put a check in the Expand Widgets Template checkbox at the top of the Edit Template text box.

NOTE : If you do not put a check in Expand widgets template checkbox at the top of the TEMPLATE CODE BOX you will not see this code.

This is in the Edit Html subtab of Template tab. Then scroll down in the code till you come to the Blog Posts Widget code where locate this line of code :

A Reader wanted to increase the font size of the Read More! link. To do this add this code instead of the one above :

POST MODIFICATIONS

The last step is to modify the post template so that each post when created will show you where to place your summary paragraph and where to place the rest of the post. To do this go to Settings------>Formatting and scroll down to the end of the page to the box for the Post Template. Copy and Paste the following lines there :

Here is the beginning of my post. <span class="fullpost">And here is the rest of it.</span>

Save Settings. When you click on Create Post and then Edit Html tab of Post Editor you will see the following (Click Image for larger view) :

Replace the line "Here is the beginning of my post." (Type your summary here) with your summary paragraph. Then replace the line "And here is the rest of it." (Type rest of the post here.) with the rest of your post. Do not delete the other lines <span class="fullpost"> and </span>. Also add your summary paragraph above both the lines and your rest of the post between the lines. Then click Publish to publish post.

CREATING YOUR POSTS

Login to Blogger.com and click on +New Post link on Dashboard. The Post Editor will come up. Click on Edit Html tab in top right frame of Post Editor. This is what you should see (The colors are mine) :

Type your summary here
<span class="fullpost">
Type rest of the post here
</span>

If you want to show a photo or any text on the summary post on the Main Page put it instead of the red text line.

If you want photo to show in the full post on the Post Page put it instead of the GREEN text.

Before publishing make sure that the two span (code) lines are present and the line is at the bottom and the span=readmore line in between your summary post and the second half of the post.

Then only click on Publish button.

PLEASE NOTE

1. The hack will not apply retrospectively. That is to say after you add the code you will have to edit your past posts so that they display in summary fashion on the Main Page of the blog.

2. The hack applies only to posts on the Main Page. Once a post having the hack moves off the Main Page it does not display in this fashion. This is a Main Page Hack.

ADVANTAGES OF THIS METHOD

The advantages of this method is you get a link to your posts below your summary paragraph which gets an additional link in the search engines indexing. Also you do not have to rely on any external Javascript. The third advantage is that the Read More link opens into a new page leaving your main page still open in viewer's browser.

This is a question which often pops up in the minds of new bloggers. We know a link or a hyperlink is the address of a web resource or web page. These are also called as URLs or addresses. To get to these resources we type the link in the address bar of the browser and hit Enter on keyboard.

A Permalink is a composite word made up of 'Permanent' + 'Link'. It is the link of a post in a blog. It may be any blog on any blogging platform. Once a post is published it is given a link or address so that you can access it directly by typing the Permalink in the address bar of your browser.

A Permalink on Blogger takes this form :

http://MYBLOGNAME.blogspot.com/4-DIGIT-YEAR/2-DIGIT-MONTH/FIRST-4-TO-6-WORDS-OF-POST-TITLE.html

As you can see it ends with the first 4 to 6 words of your post title. So make sure to type in the most important keywords in the first 4 or 6 words of your posts.

In the new layout blogger templates post titles are linked to their own Permalinks unless you use the link field below the title field. You use the link field to link to articles on the web which are referenced by your blog post. It is also used to put in links to podcasts.

You can use both Permalinks on your post titles and the link field to point to a related article which your blog post references.

Changing the date of the post does not change the Permalink.

After publishing a post if you edit it a second time and change the post title the Permalink does not change. Only the post title changes.

How to Put Adsense in Your Blogger Header

To put an Adsense Link Unit Ad. in the header..........

Log in to your Dashboard. Click on your 'Layout' link under your blog name. This takes you to Page Elements under the Template tab. Click on Edit Html. Scroll down in Edit Template field till you come to :

Change the second line to be the same as the second line above.
Save Template.
Go to Page Elements subtab.
Now you will see in the Header Section an 'Add Page Element' link.

Paste your Adsense 728 by 15 Ad. Javascript code in Content field.
Save. The Ad. unit is placed above the Title unit.
Click and drag this to below the Title unit.
Save.
View blog.

New Slideshow Widget for Blogger

Blogger has introduced a new widget for Blogspot Blogs. This is the Slideshow widget to show off your Photos as a slideshow in the sidebar of your blog. Since it is a widget or Page Element it can be added only to a Layout Template.

To add it to your blog login to Blogger.com and click on Layout link on Dashboard. On the Layout page click the 'Add Page Element' link and choose Slideshow Page element in the popup window. Then choose your options to add from Picasa Web albums, Flickr, Photobucket or any side supporting Media RSS.

For Flickr Username add the word which appears after the word 'Photos' in your Flickr page address :

You will see your photos appearing below. If not check your connection.

POSITIONING THE SLIDESHOW

After you place the slideshow element it will occupy the central position in the sidebar. If you want to put it to the right put this code in the CSS part of the template just above the ]]></b:skin> tag.:

Look at the unexpanded widget template to get your slideshow ID number from the widget code which will look like this :

CHANGE SLIDESHOW SIZE

To change the size of the slideshow login at Blogger.com and click on Layout link on Dashboard. Then click Edit Html subtab of Template tab. Put a check in Expand widgets template checkbox at the top of the Template code box. Scroll down to this line in the slideshow widget code :

CHANGE ABOVE LINE TO :

Change '350' and '260' to the dimensions you want. Make sure that they are less than the width of your sidebar column or your template may get distorted. Preview and save template.

How to Create a Timeline Widget for Blogger

A Timeline of your posts can be added to your beta blog. This shows the titles and links of all your posts against a horizontal scroll of dates published.........

This is an intresting way to display all the links to your posts so that your viewers get a visual impression of how prolific you have been in posting to your blog.

To do this you will have to get code from http://www.mytimelines.net/. To create one go here. Paste your feed url in the Feed URL text box. The URL of your beta blog's feed is :

http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

Substitute your actual blog name instead of 'yourblogname' in above link. Next choose from four different x-axis. There are two levels of time display along the horizontal axis. You can choose Day/Month, Day/Week, Week/Month or Hour/Day. Week/Month will give you a horizontally shorter timeline with all your post titles seen vertically stashed along an incline. In the next options choose the font, width and height of your timeline. Then click the 'Get Code' button.

Code is generated for you and also a preview. If you are not satisfied with the preview you can go back to the options and modify them to get it right. The preview also serves to check whether your feed url is correct by showing you the titles of your posts.

You can scroll the timeline horizontally by placing your cursor on it. The cursor changes into a hand. Then click and drag in either direction horizontally to see other posts. Clicking on the post titles brings up a box with the title of the post and the date when it was published. Then closing this box opens this post in a new tab. To stop it opening the post click outside the box in the timeline area.

To put the code in your template go to edit Html subtab of Template tab and first backup yourtemplate using the Download Full Template link found on that page. Then scroll down in Edit Template text box till you come to :

Now go to Edit Html tab and put a check in Expand Widget Templates box and then scroll down till you locate the newly added page element at the top of the Blog posts. The code will be like this :

Now you will have to style the page element by adding the following code in the css section of your template between the and tags :

How to Fix bX-xu1zoq Error In Blogger

In the Page Elements subtab of Template tab when trying to rearrange your Page Elements or Layout using the drag-and-drop interface you may get a bX-xu1zoq error code as shown below :

Here is a workaround for this :

Switch to Edit Html subtab of Template tab and scroll down to see the code for the widget. It will look like this :

The name, title and widget id may be different but in the unexpanded widget template the whole widget is represented by the above one line. Use Edit---->Cut to remove and copy the widget line to the clipboard. Then use Edit---->Paste to paste it lower down in the same section or to another section.

Remember to paste it within a section which is shown by this code :

Most Popular Posts Widget for Blogger

If you have been blogging for some time now and have installed Google Analytics in your blog you can find out which of your blog posts attracts most visitors. You can also do this with Statcounter but it offers a limited log size. To get the full log you have to upgrade to premium version. With Google Analytics you get all information free.............

It is important to know which posts are popular for two reasons. One, if you know which topic interests your visitors the most you can write further on that topic and give more information to your visitors who will keep coming back to your blog. Secondly you can put up this list of Most Popular Posts in your sidebar so that new visitors can quickly scan the list and click on the links instead of having to search your blog.

Firstly install Google Analytics in your blog. Then after allowing some time for Google to collect data login to Google Analytics. The default page will open with a list of all your blogs which have Google Analytics installed in them. Click the down arrow next to View Reports and select your blog. In the sidebar at the bottom is a calendar with title 'Date Range'. Click the 'Enter Range' icon in the calendar bar and it will expand (see picture below )

You can change the dates in it by clicking on the arrow next to months. Enter the first date in the left calendar by clicking on date and the next date in the right calendar. Then click Apply Range at the bottom. The calendar will contract into the sidebar and the page will refresh with data between the two dates.

Then click on Arrow next to Content Optimization (under All Reports)in sidebar. It will expand down. Click on Plus sign next to Content Performance and click on Top Content in expanded column. See arrow 1 in picture below :

In the main column you will get a list of all your popular posts during the period along with their page views. If you click on the icons in the top right hand border of the main column (Arrow 2) you can download the list as a Excel, Tab separated text or XML file.

After getting the list of your Most Popular Posts you can put them in the sidebar in a Link-List or Html/Javascript Page Element.

How to Add Widgets to A Blog

To add widgets to your blog ...........

Login to your Dashboard and click on Layout under your Blog name. This brings up the Page Elements page under the Template tab.

IMPORTANT : PAGE ELEMENTS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE IF YOU ARE IN BETA BLOGGER WITH A BETA TEMPLATE AND NOT ON FTP.

A Page Element is the other name for a Widget in Beta Blogger. Page Element are contained within Sections. The four Sections of your Blog are : Header, RightSidebar, LeftSidebar, Main(Blog Posts) and Footer. Click on Add Page Element link in any Section of the Layout. This opens the Choose A New Page Element window. Here are listed the types of Page Elements :

List. Add a list of your favorite books, movies, or anything you like.
Link List. Add a collection of your favorite sites, blogs, or web pages.
Picture. Add a picture from your computer or from somewhere else on the web.
Text. Add some words to your blog - like a welcome message - with our rich text editor.
HTML/Javascript. Add third-party functionality or other code to your blog. You can add any Javascript here. Javascript need not be written for beta blogger specifically. To search for Javascripts just Google for them and then copy paste here.
Adsense. Display AdSense ads targeted to your blog.
Feed. Add content from a site feed to your blog.
Labels. Show all the labels of posts in your blog.
Logo. Choose from a variety of Blogger logos to add to your page.
Profile. Display information about yourself.
Blog Archive. Display links to older posts.
Page Header. Display your blog's title and description.

Choose the type of Page Element you want and enter the data you want it to carry. Then Save Changes and View Blog.

To Edit the Page Element after adding it click on the Edit link in that section in Page Elemnts tab.

NOTE : PAGE ELEMENTS ARE REFERRED TO AS WIDGETS INTHE TEMPLATE CODE.

This will open a window to give access to edit options of each Page Element. For example if you click on Edit in Blog Posts section you will see the following window :

Here you can choose whether to show your Labels below your posts and other options. In the same way you can access other Page Elements for editing. You can also rearrange Page elements from this page by drag-and-drop method. To do this click on the element you want to move hold the click, drag it to new position and drop it (release click) there. See image below :

You can also add third party Page Elements from other sites.

CONFUSED ABOUT WHICH PAGE ELEMENT TO CHOOSE? THEN SELECT THE HTML/JAVASCRIPT OPTION.

So if you're on another site and enounter a button that says [+Blogger] or [Add to Your Blog] click on such a button, you should be prompted to log in to Blogger (if you aren't already logged in) and then you can select one of your blogs. You'll also see the title, content and template for the new page element, which you can edit if you want. A logo and "more info" link may also be present to tell you more about where this page element comes from, who created it, and what it does.

By clicking the [Add Page Element] button on this screen, you will be adding code to your blog. So it's important to make sure you either trust the source of this code, or have reviewed it to make sure it's something you're willing to have on your blog.

Once you've added the page element, it will appear on the Template | Page Elements tab for your blog, where you can edit, move, or delete it, just like the other parts of your page.

How to Change Posts order in Blogger

To change the order of your posts in Beta Blogger..............

remenber that posts are ordered according to "LATEST POSTED FIRST ON PAGE" rule. Hence the newest posts are first with earlier posts lower down in the order. The first post you made when you created the blog is the last on the page.

To change this order login to Dashboard. Click on Posts link after 'Manage:' under name of your blog. You will se a list of all your posts with links to Edit, View or Delete them. Click on Edit link of the post you want to change the date of. The Posts Editor opens with its two modes : Edit HTML and Compose. The second mode is present only if you have enabled it in Settings as described in Set Settings Part1. The bottom frame of the Posts Editor contains a link 'Post Options'. Click on it to expand the frame as shown in above image. (Click on image to view it better). In the expanded frame you can change the Posts Date and time.

If you want this post to be the first post always in this blog then set the date to any time as far in the future as it will allow it to be set. This is because once that day arrives and you post more posts this post will start migrating downwards like the rest. Till then it will remain a "sticky" post at the top of your blog.

This is frequently used by bloggers who wish to post a book with chapters and all in their blog and want the first post to be a "Table of Contents". To see an example see here. Also you should have Post Pages enabled by going to Settings--->Archiving.

How to Create New Pages in Blogger

Newcomers to Blogger are confused as how to create new pages in Blogger. In a general website every page has a new link/URL. In Blogger however you do not create new pages. Instead you create new posts. A blog is an online diary where every post is dated with the date of it's creation and a timestamp. The date is at the top of the post and the timestamp at the bottom. If you create several posts in one day then the last post gets the date at the top of it.

To create new pages in Blogger we have to understand how the blog is constructed.........

BLOGGER PAGE TYPES

These are the page types in the new Blogger :

1. The Main/Home Page :

This is the page which opens when we click on the URL/link of the blog. The URL of the blog in Blogger takes this form :

http://YOURBLOGNAME.blogspot.com

where YOURBLOGNAME is the name you chose for the blog when creating the new blog. You can choose how many posts your main page can have by going to Settings----->Formatting----->Show __ posts on Main Page and save the settings. It is better to choose a smaller number of posts on the main page since it makes the blog faster to load. You can also choose to alter the appearance of this page by using conditional tags. You can choose to prevent the appearance of certain widgets by wrapping them in conditional tags.

2. The Profile Page :

This is the page which is accessed by clicking the link to your profile in the profile widget in your blog sidebar. You can choose what appears on this page by clicking Edit Profile link on your Dashboard. This page is common to all your blogs. You cannot format it. You can also choose whether to show it or not at all by checking the Share my Profile option in the Edit Profile section. If you wish to increase traffic to your blog it is better to show your profile.

3. The Post Pages :

By going to Settings------>Archives----->Enable Post Pages----->Yes----->Save Settings you give each post it's own page or URL. The page URLs have the following structure :

http://BLOG_URL/year/Month/Post-Title

Generally blogger includes the first five words of your post title into the post URL. Make sure you include the main keywords of your post in the post title at the beginning so that they get into the post URL. This is important for search engine optimization. See picture below that shows the Blogger Pages :

To create a new page simply create a new post. You can change the appearance of post pages using conditional tags.

4. The Label Pages :

The Label Pages are created when you add labels in the bottom frame of the post editor. These are used to categorize your posts under different subjects. They serve like tags on your luggage at the airport. Do not add more than two/three labels to each post. Five or six labels on each post means five or six pages of the same content. Duplicate content is frowned on by the search engines. Each label post has the URL/link of this type :

http://Blog_URL/search/label/LABEL_NAME.

You can add labels to your sidebar using a label widget. You can also add a label cloud using the Technorati Top Tags widget.

5. The Feed Pages :

Your blog has RSS and Atom feeds. Their feed URLs are :

For the Atom feed :

For the RSS Feed :

http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

For labels the feed URL is :

http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/TYPE/-/LABEL

http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/TYPE

Substitute actual blog name in place of yourblogname and instead of 'TYPE' substitute 'full/short/default' - whatever you have chosen in Settings----->Site Feed.

Your feed footer can be changed by putting what you want to appear there in the Feed footer box at Settings----->Site Feed. If you want to customize your feed header you have to channel your blog feed through another party like Feedburner.

How to Add an Icon/Image to Blog Posts Titles

Would you like to add a small graphic or icon to your post titles? Some members of Google Groups asked for this feature and here it is......

1. CREATE A GRAPHIC

First step is to create a graphic either in an image editor or in an online image generator such as cooltext.com. Save it to your hard disk and upload it to a freehost. Then copy down its link/URL.

2. CREATING THE IMAGE CODE

The image code is :

Replace the CAPS with the link of your image obtained in step 1.

3. MODIFYING THE TEMPLATE

Login to the Dashboard and click on Layout for the blog you wish to modify. Then click the Edit Html subtab of Template tab. First backup the template. Put a check in Expand Widgets Template box at the top of the template text box.

Scroll down till you come to the Blog Posts widget code. Locate this code :

How to Add Adsense to Beta Blogger Posts

To add Adsense Ads. to beta blogs.............

FIRST BACKUP YOUR TEMPLATE.

Then login to your Adsense account and click on Adsense Setup. Click on type of Ad. you want to setup - Content, Link unit, Search unit or Referrals.

MOST IMPORTANT LINK IN YOUR TEMPLATE SETTINGS is Download Full Template on Edit Html subtab of Template Tab.

At present you are allowed to add three Content Ads., One Link Unit, two Search units and four different Referal units per page. You should try to add Ads. so that most of them appear 'above the fold'. This is the amount of web page visible to the viewer on loading the page without having to scroll down. The best place for the Link unit is in the header as a single line containing 4-5 ad units. The right hand sidebar can hold one 'skyscraper' content unit with another in the left sidebar. This is if you have a three column template structure like this web page. The one big rectangle of content unit can go above the posts in the main column. You can add the search unit either in the posts column or in the sidebar. The referrals units can go in the sidebars at the bottom.

Follow the procedure till you come to the code for pasting in your site. Then login to Dashboard click on Layout under the name of your blog. Click on 'Add Page Element' in the sidebar and choose Html/ javascript option in the popup window. Copy the code for the Ad. from Adsense setup page and paste it into the Content area. Save changes.

To add the code in the main column of your blog. Click on 'Edit Html' Tab to open the Edit Template page. Let Expand widget templates box be unchecked. In Edit template field scroll down till you come to the code for the main column which is :

Here you can now see that Blog posts section has a Add Element link. Click it to open the choices page. Choose Html/Javascript option.

CHOOSING HTML/JAVASCRIPT OPTION ENABLES YOU TO ADD CHANNEL INFO ALSO.

Copy and paste the Adsense code into the Content field. Save changes. This will place the Ad. on top of your posts. To place it below your posts go to Page Elements view and in the Blog Posts Section click and drag the Ad. to below the posts. To place one more Ad above the posts change maxwidgets="2" to maxwidgets="3" and repeat the above process. Refresh Cache. View Blog. Enjoy.

IMPORTANT ; Many readers have asked for a hack similar to Classic Blogger in which we could add Adsense Ads. within the body of the posts. louiss lim has a hack for this here. However this is done by altering part of the Adsense Ad. code which is against the TOS, so he has submitted it to Adsense for approval. Also it seems that only text Ads. can be added this way.

Technorati in Blogger Beta

Technorati is the search engine for blogs and hence no blogger can afford to go without it in his/her blog................

Google is the generalized search engine for the web. Technorati is a search engine which is specialized for blogs. Blogs in contrast to other web sites have ever changing content and Technorati focuses on them by searching them for keywords. Each blog is indexed and individually ranked among the 50 plus million blogs in today's blogosphere. The major differences between the two are outlined below :

Just as you have to submit your site to Google and the other search engines you have also to 'submit' your blog to Technorati so that other bloggers/readers can find your blog in the blogosphere. Also by doing so you can analyze your blog traffic, backlinks and find out your blog rank.

To register with Technorati go to Technorai.com and click on Join link at the top or click here. After registering you have to 'claim' your blog which is like submitting your site. To do this go here. Claiming your blog establishes that you are the (co-)author of the blog and allows you to use other Technorati services to help increase the visibility of your blog.

During the claiming process Technorati will give you a snippet of code which you have to paste in a Html/Javascript Page Element in the sidebar. To do this go to Page Elements subtab of Template tab and click on Add Page Element in the sidebar. In the new window choose Html/Javascript option and paste the code in contents and save. Having done this go back to technorati and click on Verify so that Technorati spiders your blog. Automatic robots known as "spiders" are released by Technorati to discover content on your site and its feeds. Technorati uses RSS feeds to track updates to millions of blogs. After updating your blog or after every post you have to ping Technorati to let them know that fresh content has been added. It then sends the spiders to index the content.

Each blog you claim will be listed on the Your Blogs page. To make sure the world can see it on Technorati, click the "Configure Blog" button and check to make sure that "Include this blog in Technorati's Blog Finder" is checked. This includes your blog in its Blog directory.

Technorati receives alerts from the Blogger servers whenever a user updates his or her public weblog. To set this automated ping go to Settings---->Basic----->Add your blog to our listings----->Yes---->Save Settings. Blogger will now ping Technorati automatically whenever content is updated.

Technorati breaks up your weblog's home page into smaller sections such as posts and sidebars. You can help Technorati's spiders properly identify a unique post and its proper link destination by adding a link with a defined relationship of "bookmark" for each post. For example:

Technorati also uses tags to index your blog. A tag as a simple category name. People can categorize their posts, photos and videos with any tag that makes sense. For example if you have a post about films you can tag it with the tag 'film'. Another post about family matters can be tagged as 'family'. Thus you can have posts on various subjects within your blog all neatly categorized using tags. In Beta Blogger tags are called as Labels.

There are two types of tags recognized by Technorati. Post tags are tags added to your posts and they allow your posts to be listed in Technorati's tag search here. To add the tags, add the below code for each tag you'd like add to your post into the body of your post.

Publishing a tagged post in Blogger automatically pings Technorati about updated content. If your blog software supports categories and RSS/Atom feeds just use the included category system and make sure you are publishing RSS/Atom feeds and your categories will be read as tags.

Blog Tags are tags added to your blog on Technorati's Blog Configuration page here. These tags allow your blog to be listed in Technorati's Blog Finder and Explore feature.

Technorati indexes the home page of your weblog assisted by the content of your web feeds. If the home page of your weblog contains summaries or plain-text with no links Technorati may not recognize and index your full posts.

If you use the Atom syndication format to publish the content of your weblog Technorati can still index the full text of your post regardless of your content choices on your weblog home page. Just include your entire post within the content element of each entry and we will recognize this content as the full content of your post.
